Learning Progressions in Reading

These 'learning steps' help students know what progressions they're working on. They're not tick lists, but provide a focus for reading groups.
The headings are used when we plan our reading, eg "author purpose" could be the week's focus and children share in focus development.
We use them in our reports as they come directly from the Literacy Progressions.

Digistore has lots of resources and learning objects (software packages/websites) related to reading. One disadvantage that I've found is that, often the most appropriate year levels are provided, rather than curriculum levels.
The link here is to the 'Ultimate Reader's Toolkit' - a free resource that teaches the predicting, visualising and summarising stages of reading/comprehending a text. (IanS)

Also, a website schools (and home users) can register for (about $80 each year) is ziptales. It has lots of stories, related worksheets and comprehension 'tests', all organised by genre. (IanS)

Raps are (apparently!) discussions of students and teachers about a book that has been read.
The discussions could be in a blog, emailed or in a wiki. The link here is a site from NSW that gives more information.
It says the strength is that communication is with others in other locations, perhaps other countries. (IanS)
