Arataki ICT PD Cluster


Arataki means "to lead"
  • As educators we look to lead our students into the 21st Century equipped with the technological tools and skills to fulfill their potential.
  • In order to achieve this we need to feel confident in identifying and using ICT strategies and skills that can be best implemented in pedagogical practice.


Arataki ICT PD Cluster teachers and students will be able to use current e-learning pedagogy and tools, to supplement and enhance current ways of teaching, and in particular explore new and different ways of learning. Teachers and students will have the capability to grow with technology, be confident, connected and actively involved life long learners.

MOE Contract

We have a 3 year contract with the New Zealand Ministry of Education to provide the skills and opportunities for teachers and students in our 4 cluster schools to learn through ICT (Information and Communication Technologies).

National Programme Goals
Schools will use e-learning to give effect to the New Zealand Curriculum / Te Marautanga o Aotearoa by increasing the capability of:
1. students to become successful digital citizens
2. principals to lead the integration of e-learning in their schools (strategic and operational)
3. teachers to integrate e-learning effectively into their practice creating an innovative and exciting learning environment for all students
4. family and whānau to actively participate in their child’s learning
5. the sector by sharing online professional reflections to inform colleagues of the challenges and opportunities afforded by e-learning

Arataki ICT Goals
Goal 1: Each school through its principal and teaching staff will:
a. establish an effective e-learning environment.
b. further develop formative assessment.
c. develop students to become confident users of ICT to support their learning.
d. be effective in facilitating e-learning across the curriculum to enhance higher order thinking.
Goal 2: Each school through its principal and teaching staff will:
a. plan for the integration of ICT tools in reading, writing and mathematics.
b. teach students to use the most suitable ICT learning tool to enhance their learning process.
c. track Maori and Pacifika student achievement throughout the year.
d. use a variety of ICT tools for programme planning, curriculum delivery, assessment of student achievement and for a range of communication purposes. (i.e. e-asTTle assessment for numeracy and reading).
Goal 3: The existing Arataki Cluster Professional Learning Community collaboration will be increased within and across the cluster.
Goal 4: Each school will provide leadership and ICT planning through:
a. the development of a leadership model that incorporates interpersonal respect, personal regard for others, role competence and personal integrity. (BES 2009).
b. strategic planning that aligns resource selection and allocation to priority teaching goals (BES 2009).
Goal 5: The Arataki Cluster Community will have an understanding and appreciation of how e-learning supports and further enhances student learning
